The newest buzz in the world of music news is that geek rock band Weezer has partnered with Snuggie brand blankets to create a new product - the “Wuggie.”
“A Wuggie is basically exactly like a Snuggie, except it says Weezer on it,” said frontman Rivers Cuomo in an interview with Rollingstone.com earlier this week.
“The people at Snuggie are doing it with us and promoting it with us. It’s a totally legit Snuggie.”
The story sounds a little too ridiculous to be true.
In recent webchats, Karl Koch, often considered to be the 5th member of Weezer, has hinted at the fact that the Snuggie remark was a joke though Weezer has not come forward to formally deny the existence of the Wuggie product, we’re predicting that Rivers was most likely joking around with the reporters.
Back in the 90s Weezer used to jokingly tell reporters that the video for “Buddy Holly” was all created through CGI and that they had never met video director Spike Jonze. In fact, some media outlets even did reports on how far CGI had come along using buddy holly as an example even though no CGI was actually used in the video.
Weezer also previously announced there was going to be a Weezer themed happy meal at McDonalds - another event that never actually happened.
At around 50 seconds into this interview, you can see an example of this sort of Weezer trickery.

Clearly we cannot draw any definite conclusions about the state of the so-called “Wuggie,” but my guess is that it’s another joke planned by the band. Still, we’re not really sure why Rivers sported the cheetah print Snuggie pictured above during a show in Irvine, CA.
